Following in a long line of others who’ve taken their fame and influence build empires, Brooklyn’s own Jay Z is now getting into the fragrance market. The scent is entitled “Gold” and follows in his ongoing partnership with New York retailer Barney’s. And with controversy seemingly in the past with statements from Hov and the prominent retailer, moving forward with the fashion collaboration and fragrance should continue to be a successful one. Jay Z continues to expand his already widely varied portfolio with another genius branding initiative just in time for the holidays.
When Diddy launched “Unforgivable” followed by “I Am King” with Estee Lauder, the fragrances shot to number 1 almost instantly. Of course, the marketing campaigns were amazing – as we’d expect nothing less from Diddy. Jay, on the other hand, sees his current popularity at its height. So is there a better time for such a launch? No, at least not that we can think of. I mean, think about it – can you imagine how many stockings will be stuffed with “Gold” this year? The fragrance will be released through Barney’s on November 20, followed by a rollout on November 29 to 2,000 other stores nationwide.
