On March 26, 1987, history was made. The date is marked as the day marked as the launch of one of the if not most iconic trainers in sneaker history, the Nike Air Max 1. It started as a concept by aerospace engineer Frank Rudy, a running shoe fitted with a prototype airbag. Rudy presented Nike founder Phil Knight with a pair and was applied to the Air Tailwind in 1978. Almost a decade later, footwear designer legend Tinker Hatfield created the Air Max 1. Twenty-seven years later, Nike is recognizing 3.26, the day that started it all. As part of the celebration, Nike has created a dedicated site where visitors can enjoy the full Nike Air Max experience. Additionally, Nike Sportswear presents the Air Max 1 “Air Max Day,” combining the original white/red upper with a volt midsole, accentuating the visible Air. Look for the kicks to launch this month.
